The Chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the committee is in the final stages of its work and will soon present its findings to President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Accra based Citi, Ablakwa, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, disclosed that the committee has received more than 700 petitions from the public, reflecting widespread concerns about alleged misappropriation of public resources.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that the ORAL Committee’s mandate is to promote accountability and deter corruption among public officials.
“We are still compiling all the cases and will be presenting our report to the President soon. So far, over 700 petitions have come in, and while it has been a daunting task, there is the political will to see this through,” he stated.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to upholding the same standards of accountability it demanded while in opposition. “What I like about this process is that it allows us to demonstrate the same passion for transparency now that we are in government. This commitment serves as a deterrent to those coming into government in the future,” Ablakwa noted.
The Chairman explained that the committee is currently conducting a validation process to ensure the accuracy and thoroughness of its work. This involves cross-checking information collected during field investigations and preparing the report for submission.
“We are nearing the end of this process and hope to wrap up in the next couple of weeks. Most of the field validations have been completed in the capital, where much of the alleged looting occurred. However, we are now planning to extend these validation sessions to other regions, starting this weekend, to ensure nationwide coverage,” Ablakwa said.
The committee has pledged to visit all regions where petitions have been received, ensuring a thorough examination of the issues raised.
The North Tongu MP assured the public that the report would reflect the extensive work undertaken by the committee, serving as a foundation for decisive action against corruption.
The ORAL Committee’s efforts represent a critical step in Ghana’s fight against corruption, demonstrating a commitment to accountability and the principles of good governance.
