A police officer with the Suhum Municipal Police Command in the Eastern Region has tragically died after collapsing while exercising at a gym on Monday evening.
The deceased officer, identified as Felix Atistogbui, reportedly left home around 5:00pm Wednesday July 2,to engage in his usual fitness routine but complained of dizziness shortly after starting his workout.
According to his father, who spoke to local media, Felix managed to call him around 5:30pm, informing him that he had collapsed at the gym and was feeling unwell so should pick him to the house.
“Yesterday around 5:00pm, he told me he was going to the gym. But at about 5:30pm, he called me saying he was feeling dizzy and had fallen down. He asked me to come and pick him. I rushed to the place and took him to the hospital, but after 20 minutes, the doctor came and told me he had passed away,” his grieving father recounted.
Felix, a well-built and lively officer, was well known in the Suhum Municipality for his warm relationship with residents and colleagues.
His sudden passing has left both the police service and the Suhum community in shock.
The body has since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of death.
