Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has urged young Ghanaians to cultivate resilience and prepare themselves for opportunities long before such opportunities arise.
He said young people must not wait until an opportunity presents itself before acquiring the knowledge, skills, experience and confidence needed to take advantage of it.
Dr Amin Adam was speaking at the fourth edition of the Tamale Youth Summit held at the GNAT Hall in Tamale on Saturday, September 5, under the theme “Breaking Limits: Empowering Youth for Leadership, Innovation & Impact.”
His central message was that success is rarely the product of luck, but rather the result of consistent effort, patience, resilience and preparedness.
“It is better to prepare for an opportunity you may not get than to get an opportunity you were not prepared for,” he told participants.
The former Finance Minister also encouraged the youth to embrace vulnerability and seek help when necessary, saying admitting that one needs assistance should not be interpreted as weakness.
According to him, young people must also understand that meaningful success does not happen overnight.
“Success is built through small and consistent efforts,” he said, adding that “success takes time and patience.”
Dr Amin Adam further urged the youth to acquire what he described as the “weapon of resilience”, stressing that resilience was necessary for anyone seeking to overcome personal, social or professional limitations.
“Acquire the weapon of resilience; it teaches you that no matter which community you find yourself in, you should be resilient in breaking boundaries,” he said.
He said the circumstances in which young people find themselves should not become permanent barriers to their ambitions, urging them instead to remain determined and continue working towards their goals.
The Karaga MP’s message resonated with participants, with some later highlighting his emphasis on preparedness as one of the major lessons from the summit.
The summit, organised by the Dream Big Foundation, brought together young people, professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders for discussions on leadership, innovation, personal development and social impact.
The organisers said the initiative was intended to equip young people with the confidence, skills and networks required to become active contributors to their communities and the country’s development.
The 2026 edition sought particularly to encourage participants to identify and overcome limitations while developing the capacity to turn ideas and opportunities into meaningful impact.
