The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and National Chairman hopeful for the party, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of targeting him and his businesses.
He claims this is because the NDC fears that if he becomes the NPP’s National Chairman, they will lose power in the 2028 elections hence the diabolic ploy against him.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi FM monitored by Kumasimail, Chairman Wontumi questioned the John Dramani Mahama led government’s decision to freeze his bank accounts despite him not holding any government position in the previous administration lead by former President Nana Akufo Addo.
He expressed frustration, saying the action was unjustified and politically motivated ” Ghanaians voted for you because they want you to rule the country but you appears to have forgotten about your work. focus on governance and stop targeting me and my business” .
Chairman Wontumi said that his campaign for the National Chairmanship is deeply rooted in grassroots support.
He described himself as a man of the people who uses public transport such as trotro, aboboyaa, pragia, taxis, and buses, while also owning good cars.
He highlighted his connection with ordinary Ghanaians, including farmers, and stressed that he belongs to every segment of society.
He stated, “A win for Wontumi means that polling station executives, constituency executives, and regional executives will all be included. I am the people’s Chairman. I am coming for you people.”
Wontumi promised to consult widely if elected, involving all party levels from polling stations to the regional executives.
He pledged to run a campaign that reflects the voices of all party members. “This has put the NDC in fear,” he said.
Wontumi stressed “They know that if the NPP sets things up properly for the 2028 election, we will win. So they know Wontumi is winning the National Championship that is why they are attacking me.”
Chairman Wontumi denied receiving any government contracts based on party affiliation.
