Sarki Alhaji Baba Sule, National Liaison Officer between the Ghana Police Service and the Zongo Community, has called on Muslim leaders, Chiefs and Imams to intensify advocacy against the dire ramifications of drug abuse among Zongo youth.
He made the call during the celebration of the Maulid of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), organized under the auspices of the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, at Fadama on 4th September 2026.
Sarki Baba Sule noted with concern the rising trend of tramadol, marijuana, and other substance abuse among the youth in Zongo communities, describing it as a threat to the future, faith, and security of the community.
He urged Imams to use the Minbar, Chiefs to use their palaces, and Muslim leaders to use every platform to educate the youth on the Islamic, health and security dangers of drugs, and to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service to identify and rehabilitate affected youth.
“As we celebrate the birth of the Best of Mankind, who came as a mercy to humanity, let us protect our youth from this menace. Drug abuse is destroying their health, their Iman and their future,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to work hand-in-hand with the Office of the National Chief Imam and Zongo traditional authorities to combat the menace through education, not just enforcement.
