The newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, Hon. Appiah Somuah, has reiterated his commitment to protecting residents and promoting development across the district. Speaking during a series of stakeholder engagements and field inspections, Somuah Appiah emphasized the government’s resolve to improve key sectors, including transportation, education, and security.
During a meeting with representatives of the Drivers Association, Transport Union, TUC, and other transport groups, the DCE addressed concerns about transport fares and travel allowances. He acknowledged the challenges and commended the associations for their cooperation.
According to Hon. Somuah, recent government directives on transportation reforms are part of a broader strategy to streamline the system and enhance national development.
As part of efforts to ensure the effectiveness of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), Hon. Somuah also embarked on unannounced inspections at several schools within the district.
The program, which aims to provide nutritious meals to pupils in public schools, is vital for enhancing enrollment and retention in deprived communities.
“Regular monitoring is essential to ensure that the meals provided are nutritious, of good quality, and reach the intended beneficiaries,” he stated.
He urged stakeholders to support the initiative and help address challenges to sustain the program’s impact.
In a separate engagement, the DCE visited the Sekyere Central District Police Command, where officers shared concerns about limited resources and logistical constraints.
The police cited shortages in personnel, equipment, and operational support as major barriers to effective law enforcement and public safety.
Hon. Somuah assured the police of the government’s support, stating that President John Dramani Mahama and the Sekyere Central District Assembly are committed to addressing these gaps. He pledged to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure they receive the necessary resources to enhance their capacity to fight crime and maintain peace in the district.
