The New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth group in Wioso Zongo has issued a strong call to Sammy Awuku, a senior figure within the party, urging him to rein in political activist Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah over what they describe as “unwarranted attacks” on the party’s 2024 Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a press release dated April 14, 2025, and signed by the group under the name “NPP Boys Wioso Zongo,” the youth expressed their displeasure with Owusu Bempah’s recent media commentary, accusing him of launching personal insults against the former Vice President.
“It is highly disappointing that someone like Owusu Bempah, who consistently mentioned Sammy Awuku as his pillar and source of encouragement anytime he met with us, has now taken to radio and other platforms to insult Dr. Bawumia,” the statement read. “This level of disrespect is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.”
The group praised Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to the NPP, describing him as a symbol of loyalty, competence, and integrity within the party. They argued that figures like Owusu Bempah, who they claim have done little to advance the party’s electoral gains, should not be allowed to attack senior leaders.
“If Sammy Awuku truly believes in party unity and discipline, he must act now and call his boy to order. The NPP is bigger than personal interests and reckless commentary,” the group emphasized.
The statement underscores ongoing internal tensions within the party as it gears up for the 2024 general elections.
Neither Mr. Awuku nor Owusu Bempah had responded to the statement at the time of filing this report.
