Kumasi-based Sakafia Islamic Senior High School has earned global recognition by winning the 2025 Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Global High Schools category for Sub-Saharan Africa.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where the school was awarded a cash prize of USD $150,000.
Former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, took to Facebook to congratulate the school on this remarkable achievement.
Describing it as a moment of immense pride and joy, he lauded the institution for its dedication, creativity, and forward-thinking approach, which have brought honour to Ghana and the Ashanti Region.
The school received the award for its groundbreaking aquaponics project, a sustainable agricultural initiative that addresses food insecurity while promoting environmental conservation.
This innovative project, spearheaded by the students and faculty, demonstrates how education can drive meaningful social and environmental change.
In his statement, Dr. Adutwum praised Sakafia Islamic Senior High School for setting a sterling example for other schools across Ghana and beyond.
