A former Cabinet Minister from the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has described President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership style as “autocratic and super arrogant.”
Speaking on condition of anonymity to Kumasi Mail, the former minister recounted an incident at a Cabinet meeting where the President allegedly embarrassed the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah.
According to the source, after Koduah publicly called for a ministerial reshuffle, President Akufo-Addo, in what was described as his “usual arrogant posture,” requested an A4 sheet and a pen from Asenso Boakye.
He then asked Koduah to list the names of ministers and appointees he believed were underperforming and should be reshuffled.
“This singular act completely humiliated the General Secretary in front of Cabinet members, indirectly implying that Koduah was not more sensible than the President,” the former minister stated.
Expressing his disappointment, he added, “If I were the General Secretary, I would have resigned that very day. Justin Frimpong Koduah is a solid leader. We lost the elections to the NDC due to the government’s unpopular decisions and lack of respect for party leaders.”
He further defended Koduah against accusations of weak leadership, emphasizing that the General Secretary had boldly challenged the President to reshuffle his ministers but lacked the necessary support from the party.
“It angers me when people describe Justin Koduah as a weak leader. He stood up to the President on the issue of ministerial reshuffling but was not backed by the party. It is unfair to blame him for our defeat in the 2024 elections,” he reiterated.
He explained, “The President was older than everyone in the Cabinet and the national executives of the party. He packed the Council of Elders indirectly with his friends, so no one could speak the truth to him. We have to learn a lot from President Nana Akufo-Addo’s failures to rebuild our party.”
