Hearing of the Interlocutory Injunction application seeking to stop the President John Dramani Mahama from continuing with processes to remove Chief Justice has been adjourned indefinitely by the Supreme Court.
This was after the Office of the Attorney General had written to the Chief Justice for all civil cases between April 7 and 10, 2025 involving the State to be adjourned because State Attorneys are involved in a training and same had been approved.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, against the procedure being used by President John Mahama to potentially remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.
Assafuah’s application seeks to halt the removal process, arguing that the President must notify the Chief Justice and obtain her comments before initiating consultation with the Council of State.
The plaintiff is invoking the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, seeking declarations on the interpretation of constitutional provisions governing the removal of a Chief Justice.
The panel of five presided over by Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa Bonsu has adjourned the case indefinitely
