The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has accused operatives of the National Security of attempting to plant cocaine, marijuana, and gold in his house as a pretext for his arrest.
Wontumi made the allegation in response to a failed arrest attempt by a joint police and National Security team over his alleged role of his mining firm Akonta mining Company limited in gold mining in forest reserves whiles speaking on Accra Based Asempa FM.
The attempted arrest followed his alleged failure to honor an invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) even though who Wontum has explain he has officially written to the police CID headquarters for few days extension of the invitation reported expected date on health grounds. therefore, questioning the security operative attempted invasion to his residence to forceful arrest him to Accra.
Clarifying his position, Wontumi stated, “Next Monday, 26th May, I will report to the police headquarters to respond to the invitation. I haven’t received any invitation from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). The only invitation I received was from the police.”
He further disclosed the freezing of his personal and company bank accounts, which he said came to his attention under distressing circumstances.
“Surprisingly, I got to know this when I went to the bank to withdraw money to pay my kids’ school fees and for housekeeping. That was when I was told that my accounts had been frozen by the government through directives from security operatives. At the moment, I’m struggling to take care of my family and manage my businesses,” he lamented.
Chairman Wontumi accused the ruling government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, of targeting him for political reasons.
“President Mahama, why are you doing this to me? What have any of my companies done wrong against the country? If they have, write to me. Mr. President, you don’t have to personally target me like this. Please call your security agencies to order,” he pleaded.
