The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mrs. Efua Ghartey, has called on members of the Greater Accra Regional Bar Association to enhance public engagement and ensure that their legal expertise benefits the broader society.
Speaking at the official launch of the Greater Accra Bar Week celebration, Mrs. Ghartey emphasized the critical role lawyers play in empowering citizens through legal education and public outreach.
She encouraged members to step beyond the courtroom and into communities, particularly markets and other public spaces, to educate the public on legal issues such as intestate succession.
“Lawyers must take deliberate steps to guide and inform the public, helping them make better legal decisions and understand their rights,” she said.
Mrs. Ghartey underscored that such initiatives align with the GBA’s broader mission of promoting access to justice and ensuring that the legal profession remains connected to the needs of society.
In a passionate appeal, she also urged lawyers to uphold a standard of excellence in their conduct, appearance, and professional output. Referring to Daniel 6:3, she said, “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes because an excellent spirit was in him.” She encouraged lawyers to distinguish themselves in their workplaces and social lives through professionalism and integrity.
“Our appearance matters. Whether in court or at meetings, let us always present ourselves with dignity and excellence,” she added.
