Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, says government has robust programme to improve training of teachers across all Colleges of Education in the country.

Speaking at the Homecoming event of Peki College of Education, the Deputy Minister said the college like many others will benefit when the programme takes full effect.

“I can confirm that the Government of H.E President John Mahama has a robust programme to support improvements in the delivery of Teacher Training across country. Of course, like other colleges of education in the country, GOVCO will be considered when the implementation of the programme starts. I owe it to myself, all of us, and the next generation of students of GOVCO to be particularly interested in this programme”. The Deputy Finance Minister said.

According to him government has shown this commitment to Colleges of Education by clearing the allowances for teacher trainees from January to June 2025, and has committed to paying them promptly at the end of every month.

Thomas Nyarko Ampem acknowledged government’s longstanding investment and commitments in the training of teachers but stressed that economic challenges such as revenue shortfalls and emergency expenditures sometimes slow down interventions.

“t is also important for us all to recognise that long-standing socio-economic vulnerabilities, which we are now trying to steadily address implies that we encourage all stakeholders to take their rightful place in supporting the delivery of critical public services. Unanticipated shortfalls in revenue, sudden rises in emergency expenditure, and many others tends to undermine and delay Government’s investments”. Said Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

Thomas Nyarko Ampem,an alumnus of the college, called on alumni and stakeholders to support their alma mater, citing a recent donation of 55 all-in-one computers to Peki College of Education by the Old Govconians Association of North America.

He urged alumni to re-energize their union to provide mentorship, mobilize resources, and partner with government in building institutional resilience for the College.

“Re-energising our union will enable us to amplify our voice, structure critical partnerships with Management, Government, Local Government (South Dayi Assembly) traditional leader, SRC leaders and others in improving GOVCO. It will enable us to voluntarily mobilise critical resources to complement the provision of core services”

He added “today, I urge us to consider how we can collectively contribute to the growth and development of our beloved institution. Whether through mentorship schemes, resource mobilization, or advocacy, your support can help build institutional resilience of GOVCO”.

The Deputy Minister also Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman congratulated the Governing Council and management of the College for hosting its 17th Congregation, describing the event as a milestone in nurturing the next generation of educators.
