Former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will today, Tuesday, September 23, appear before the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vetting committee as part of the process to contest the party’s 2026 presidential primary.
The vetting exercise, a mandatory step for all aspirants, is designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and adherence to the party’s internal rules.
It offers candidates the opportunity to present their political vision, leadership credentials, and strategy for uniting the party ahead of the general elections.
Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice-President under President Nana Akufo-Addo, remains a central figure in the NPP’s political structure.
His campaign has rallied supporters under the slogan “Win With Bawumia”, projecting him as the strongest candidate to lead the party into the 2026 polls.
If he secures approval from the committee, Dr. Bawumia will officially be on the ballot in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive flagbearer contests in the party’s recent history.
Dr. Bawumia faces competition from four other party stalwarts including Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Assin Central MP and businessman, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister.
The outcome of the vetting process will determine those who will clear as the NPP’s flagbearerip candidates.
