NPP should sack Abronye from the party; no need for a disciplinary hearing- Prof. Charles Marfo

Prof. Charles Marfo urges swift dismissal of Bono Regional NPP Chairman Kwame Baffoe, criticizing party leadership’s tolerance of damaging conduct

NPP should sack Abronye from the party; no need for a disciplinary hearing- Prof. Charles Marfo
Share on WhatsApp

Prof. Charles Marfo, Provost of the College of Health and Social Sciences at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to expel the Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye from the party.

The Professor accused Abronye of tarnishing the party’s reputation and urged that disciplinary proceedings be bypassed in favor of immediate dismissal.

In an interview on Oyerepa TV’s Breakfast Morning Show hosted by Parker Wilson, Prof. Marfo expressed strong criticism not only of Baffoe but also of the NPP leadership’s approach to internal party issues.

He argued that politicians often overlook the damage caused within their parties, believing instead that political power will simply change hands every eight years.

Prof. Marfo stated, “They only believe that after 8 years power will change. I’ve maintained this position for 20 years now. This mindset afflicts most Ghanaian politicians.”

He added that such negligence explains why the party leadership had previously overlooked officials like Afoko in 2015, relying on the failures of the ruling party to regain power.

Prof Marfo stated, “They don’t care about whatever happens in the party; that is why they have the audacity to do away with Afoko and co., because they think to hell with them when power will come. In other words, they believe it is the NDC that will fail for us to win power, not because of these people.”

“That is exactly what the loose leadership of this current administration (NPP leadership) is thinking,” he added.

Referring directly to the current NPP administration, Prof. Marfo said, “I really don’t see why anybody should call Abronye to a disciplinary committee. I expect them to sack him.

“It should be that one morning they bring out a letter saying this guy is spreading nonsense that does not align with the image of the party. What is he going to do at the disciplinary committee?,” he asked.

He emphasized that certain individuals bring more harm than benefit to the party, and it is better to distance the party from them.

“There are some numbers you are better off without when it comes to attributes and personality. You are better off standing alone with dignity than being with a number of people who have no dignity,” Prof Marfo remarked.

The Provost was particularly critical of Kwame Baffoe’s public conduct, describing his manner of speech as “disheartening” and “bad,” with a lack of coherence and poor language usage.

“How he (Abronye) speaks is disheartening. How he speaks is poor; the language itself is bad, and the structure and organization of his conversation are incoherent,” Prof Marfo opined.

He warned that unless decisive action is taken against Baffoe, any previous disciplinary actions taken against individuals like Kwabena Agyapong and Afoko would be viewed as illegitimate and politically motivated.

“If today, despite how Abronye is destroying the party’s reputation, they do not sack him, then everyone will know that the basis on which they sacked Kwabena Agyapong and Afoko was unholy and a machination,” he emphasized.

Background to Abronye petition:
The petition against Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC and Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was formally submitted by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, to the NPP National Disciplinary Committee in September 2025.

The petition accuses Abronye of gross misconduct, including defamatory remarks against senior party member Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and false allegations against the General Secretary himself.

Key issues raised include Abronye publicly insulting Hon. Agyapong with derogatory comments and falsely accusing the General Secretary of concealing reports implicating Agyapong in attempts to undermine the party.

Abronye is also accused of breaching confidentiality by misrepresenting the contents of a disciplinary committee report, actions which have been described as seriously damaging to party unity, integrity, and public image.

The petition requests a full and impartial inquiry into Abronye’s conduct along with appropriate disciplinary sanctions, asserting that his behavior constitutes defamation, gross indiscipline, and misconduct. The party leadership has referred the petition to the National Executive Committee and the disciplinary body for investigation and possible sanctioning.

In response, Abronye has accepted the summons but demanded that the disciplinary proceedings be broadcast live to the public
