The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has urged party delegates in the region to give former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia an overwhelming endorsement in the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Speaking while campaigning with Dr. Bawumia in parts of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Antwi Boasiako appealed to delegates to vote with a unified voice, stressing that the party’s future depends on strong internal support ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“I am begging you delegates for one thing—let us give former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia an overwhelming endorsement on January 31,” he said. “Let us speak with one voice. Let our votes speak with one voice.”
The outspoken party chairman, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, described Dr. Bawumia as the future of the NPP and Ghana, urging delegates to vote massively in his favour during the primaries.
“He is our future. He is the future of Ghana, and we are going to vote massively for him,” he added.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako emphasized that his call was motivated by loyalty to the party and belief in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, urging delegates to rally behind the former vice president to strengthen the party’s chances in the 2028 elections.
Dr. Bawumia is contesting the NPP’s presidential slot as the party prepares to elect a flagbearer to lead it into the next general elections. The Ashanti Region, traditionally the party’s stronghold, is expected to play a decisive role in the outcome of the January 31 primaries.
Campaign activities are ongoing across the country as aspirants engage delegates ahead of the internal contest. Five candidates are seeking to the lead the party into elections 2028 include former Minister of Education Dr. Osei Yaw adutwum, Former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryn Acheampong, Former Genearl secertary of the party Eng. Kwabena adjei Agyapong Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
