The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the successful and violence-free conduct of its presidential candidate primaries, which produced former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2028 general election.
In a statement issued in Accra on Saturday, February 1, 2026, and signed by its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the NDC commended the NPP for the orderly organisation of the internal elections.
“The National Democratic Congress hereby offers its congratulations to the opposition New Patriotic Party for the successful organization of a violence-free presidential candidate primaries,” the statement said.
The NDC also praised the Ghana Police Service for what it described as the “remarkable and efficient manner” in which officers secured the entire process, contributing to the peaceful outcome of the exercise.
According to the statement, the party welcomed the participation of the NPP and other political parties in what it termed a collective national effort to strengthen and deepen Ghana’s democratic governance.
The NDC further noted the conciliatory concession statements made by candidates who were unsuccessful in the primaries, expressing hope that such gestures would translate into sustained unity within the NPP.
“We have also taken note of the reconciliatory concession statements from the other unsuccessful candidates, and hope that they would walk their talk,” the statement added.
The NPP primaries form part of early preparations toward the 2028 general elections, as political parties across the country begin internal processes to position themselves for the polls.
