The Ghana Private Road Transport Union has cautioned commercial drivers against increasing transport fares ahead of an official announcement regarding possible adjustments.
According to the union, a meeting involving transport operators has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, to deliberate on whether transport fares should be reviewed in response to rising operational costs.
Speaking to Kumasi Mail, the Industrial Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Alhaji Abass Imoro, urged drivers to remain calm and avoid unilateral decisions that could inconvenience commuters.
He explained that the meeting would assess the current cost pressures facing transport operators, including the rising prices of spare parts and vehicle maintenance.
Meanwhile, checks at some oil marketing companies indicate that fuel prices have not yet been adjusted. Fuel stations operated by Shell Ghana and TotalEnergies are still selling petroleum products at existing prices.
The union says transport operators should therefore wait for the outcome of the scheduled meeting before any decision is made regarding a possible increase in transport fares.
The GPRTU maintains that any official adjustment will be communicated to drivers and the general public through the appropriate channels.
