President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled a pledge made at the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, by donating six months of his basic salary to support the initiative.
The donation formed part of a broader contribution by government appointees, who also gave one month of their basic salaries towards the Fund. The total amount presented to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund was GH¢6,102,737.80.
The contribution was officially handed over to the Fund on Monday by Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.
Receiving the donation, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, expressed appreciation for the gesture and commended the commitment shown towards assisting Ghanaians who require specialist medical care.
She acknowledged the support as an important step towards strengthening efforts to provide medical assistance to people facing critical health challenges.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting citizens who struggle to access essential healthcare services.
She encouraged individuals, institutions, and corporate organisations to contribute towards sustaining the Fund to enable it to continue serving Ghanaians in need.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund was established to provide financial support for persons requiring specialist medical treatment and other critical healthcare interventions.
