The Ministry of the Interior has advised the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains and flooding reported in several parts of Ghana.
In a public safety advisory issued on Monday, 29 June 2026, the ministry urged people to remain where they are until conditions improve, as authorities work to manage the situation.
Residents who are safely at home have been advised to stay indoors, while those already at workplaces or other secure locations have been encouraged to remain there until it is safe to travel.
The ministry warned motorists and pedestrians against attempting to cross flooded roads, bridges or waterways, noting that rising floodwaters could pose serious risks to lives and property.
“The Ministry of the Interior advises the general public to exercise extreme caution following the heavy rains and flooding experienced in several parts of the country this morning,” the statement said.
Emergency response agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have been deployed to monitor developments, assist affected communities and undertake rescue operations where necessary.
The ministry also advised residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground where possible and report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency.
It urged the public to remain calm, follow instructions from emergency personnel and rely on official sources for updates.
People requiring emergency assistance can contact the Ghana Police Service on 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service on 192, and NADMO through 112.
The Interior Ministry said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates, adding that public safety remains the government’s priority.
