Suspected illegal miners abandoned their operations and fled when an Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force arrived at a mining site near the Adansi Asokwa’s abandoned Agenda 111 Hospital project site following a tip-off on Wednesday 2nd July 2026 .
The operation was launched after authorities received reports of illegal mining activities in the vicinity of the hospital, according to a statement posted on Facebook by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene.

Dr. Amoakohene said the task force was immediately dispatched to the area after the report was received. However, the suspects escaped before they could be arrested after apparently becoming aware that authorities had been alerted.
Despite the suspects’ escape, the task force impounded two excavators and a pickup truck believed to have been used in the illegal mining activities. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The Regional Minister disclosed that efforts to identify the owners of the affected land were unsuccessful.
He announced that, under the Council’s land reclamation initiative, the degraded site would be restored, while steps would be taken to ensure that ownership of the land reverts to the Government of Ghana to support the future expansion and development of the Adansi Asokwa Hospital.

Dr. Amoakohene commended the whistleblower whose timely report made the operation possible and urged members of the public to remain vigilant by reporting illegal mining and other environmental offences.
He advised whistleblowers to call or send text messages to +233 55 403 2482, noting that direct reporting through the hotline would help prevent suspects from fleeing before security personnel arrive.
“If you see something, say something,” the Minister urged, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting the environment, safeguarding public lands, and preserving critical public infrastructure for future generations.
