MTN Ghana has refurbished thousands of hospital beds across the country and announced a GH¢1 million partnership with DOSH Health Insurance to support patients who cannot afford to pay their hospital bills.

The initiatives form part of the telecommunications company’s annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care employee volunteer programme.

Speaking at the Maamobi General Hospital, where MTN employees and partners refurbished hospital beds and furniture, MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to supporting healthcare beyond financial donations.

“Giving back is not only about financial contributions. It is about being present, actively participating and working alongside communities to create positive change,” he said.

According to Mr. Blewett, MTN Ghana has refurbished 3,880 hospital beds nationwide under the initiative. The work includes repairing mechanical components, repainting beds and refurbishing hospital furniture, including reupholstering wooden furniture in selected health facilities.

He said the project aims to improve patient comfort and healthcare environments.

Mr. Blewett also urged more corporate organisations to support Ghana’s healthcare sector.

“Imagine the impact if every major company committed to supporting healthcare facilities and other critical sectors. Together, we can strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and improve the quality of life for thousands of people,” he said.

As part of the programme, MTN Ghana has partnered with DOSH Health Insurance to provide a GH¢1 million health insurance support package for patients who have been medically discharged but remain in hospital because they cannot settle their bills.

Speaking on behalf of DOSH Health Insurance, Head of Sales and Marketing Belinda Amoo said beneficiaries would receive more than financial assistance.

“This intervention goes beyond settling hospital bills. Beneficiaries will also receive health insurance coverage to support subsequent medical visits throughout the year, ensuring continued access to healthcare services,” she stated.

The programme is expected to benefit about 100 patients across selected healthcare facilities nationwide. It will cover outstanding hospital bills and provide health insurance to support future medical care.

The 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign is MTN’s annual employee volunteer programme, under which staff contribute time and skills to community development projects across Ghana.
