President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut sod on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for the construction of a new multi-tiered, multi-purpose car park and airport hotels complex at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
The project, announced by Minister in charge of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a Facebook post, is expected to include a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking bays.
The proposed complex will also feature two hotels and a pedestrian connector linking the facility directly to the airport terminal.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the development will further incorporate a shopping mall with a food court, retail spaces and offices available for rental.
The facility is also expected to include a sky lounge intended for entertainment and a sky observatory designed to provide views of aircraft during landings and take-offs.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described President Mahama as a leader noted for investments in major infrastructure projects, citing the Terminal 3 project at the Accra International Airport, the MPS Terminal at the Tema Port and the Tema-Mpakadan Railway project among projects undertaken under his leadership.
He said the President would return to the Accra International Airport on Thursday to formally commence the new development.
The project is expected to expand the airport’s parking capacity while providing additional commercial, hospitality and recreational facilities within the airport environment.
