The Bagah Family of Nyimbale in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region has officially announced the funeral of the late Naa Professor Daniel Anku-Mwine Bagah Mwinsu II, former representative of the Upper West Region on the Council of State.
A delegation from the family, led by the District Chief Executive for Nadowli-Kaleo, Hon. Mary Haruna, and the NPP Constituency Chairman for Nadowli-Kaleo, Hon. Joseph D. Kontomah, paid a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, to formally announce the chief’s death and invite him to the final funeral rites.
Naa Professor Daniel Anku-Mwine Bagah Mwinsu II, a distinguished traditional ruler, academic and statesman, died on June 25, 2026, after a short illness.
The final funeral rites will take place at Nyimbale, with the wake-keeping scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026. The traditional mourning and final funeral rites will follow on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
Receiving the delegation, Hon. Puozuing expressed his condolences to the Bagah Family, the Divisional Council of Chiefs and the people of Nyimbale, describing the death as a significant loss to the region and the country.
He described the late Naa Professor as a man of wisdom, peace and scholarship whose contributions to traditional leadership, academia and public service had left a lasting mark on the Upper West Region and Ghana.
The Regional Minister assured the family of the support of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council and pledged to personally attend the funeral to mourn with the family and celebrate the life and legacy of the late chief.
He also appealed to well-wishers, traditional authorities and residents to join the family in giving the late Naa Professor a befitting farewell.
Naa Professor Daniel Anku-Mwine Bagah Mwinsu II was a native of Nyimbale in the Nadowli-Kaleo District and combined a career in academia with public service and politics.
In 2021, he was elected as the Upper West Region’s representative on the Council of State. He served on the House Affairs Committee, which is responsible for promoting the welfare of members of the Council and staff of its Secretariat, as well as overseeing the activities of the Secretariat.
He was a former lecturer at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), where he served as Dean of the School of Law and Business Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Development Studies.
He also lectured at the College of Community and Organisational Development (CCOD), a private university in Sunyani.
In public service, Naa Professor Bagah served as a government appointee on the Governing Council of Bolgatanga Technical University and was a former Chairman of the Governing Council of the Hilla Limann Technical University.
He also chaired the Education Sector Committee of then-presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2016 general elections.
His political career included a bid for Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency in the 2004 elections, although he was unsuccessful. Earlier, he contested the Nadowli-Kaleo parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2000 elections but was also unsuccessful.
His death brings to an end a career that spanned traditional leadership, academia, politics and public service.
