Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, is expected to return to Kumasi today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, following an official visit to the United States.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council and Kumasi Traditional Council have announced plans for a grand welcome to mark the return of the Asantehene.
During his visit to the United States, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on the theme, “Governance, Cultural Preservation, Traditional Leadership and the Enduring Connections Between Ghana and the Global African Diaspora.”
He also participated in the Akwasidae festival and held a high-level engagement with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., among other engagements.
Welcome procession
Upon his arrival at the Prempeh I International Airport, the Asantehene will be accorded a ceremonial welcome by the security services, including a parade and ceremonial salute.
He will then proceed through some principal streets of Kumasi as part of a procession to greet his subjects before continuing to the Manhyia Palace.
The announced route will begin from the Prempeh I International Airport through Krofrom, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Bantama and Komfo Anokye, popularly known as Gee Roundabout, before reaching the Otumfuo Roundabout at Kejetia.
From Kejetia, the procession will continue towards Hello FM and the Prudential Bank Road, where it will turn right towards the Central Police Station and connect to the Military Museum.
The Asantehene will then proceed through the Military Museum, in front of Poku Trading, towards the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
From the KMA, the procession will continue towards the Asafo Interchange, passing through the Asafo Labour Roundabout, Amakom, WAEC and Akwatia Line before finally arriving at the Manhyia Palace.
At the Manhyia Palace, customary rites will be performed to mark and give thanks for the Asantehene’s safe return home.
Public urged to welcome Asantehene
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and collaborating authorities have appealed to residents of Kumasi and the general public to come out and give Otumfuo Osei Tutu II a warm and befitting welcome.
Schoolchildren are expected to be stationed along the principal routes with miniature Asante flags to welcome the Asantehene.
Residents have therefore been encouraged to cooperate with the schoolchildren and other participants who will gather along the designated routes.
The KMA, traditional authorities and organisers have also called on residents, traditional leaders, institutions and the people of Asanteman to come together in unity and participate in the welcome activities.
The authorities said the occasion would provide an opportunity for the people of Asanteman to warmly welcome their King back home after his engagements in the United States.
