The Ministry of Education has announced plans to undertake a comprehensive review of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) after the conclusion of the current placement exercise.

The Ministry said the review would seek to strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in the placement process while ensuring that merit remains the key consideration in assigning qualified students to schools.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Ministry welcomed a call by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for greater transparency, accountability and an ultimate review of the CSSPS.

The Ministry emphasised that the CSSPS is fundamentally a merit-based system, with merit taking precedence over protocol in the placement of qualified candidates.

It said the objective was to ensure that placement decisions were guided by established criteria and that every qualified student was treated fairly within the approved placement framework.

Technical committee to lead review

According to the Ministry, a Technical Working Committee will be established after the current placement exercise to conduct a comprehensive review of the system.

The review will examine the various components of the CSSPS, identify areas requiring improvement, and make recommendations to strengthen transparency and accountability.

The Ministry said the exercise would also ensure that the placement system remained “credible, efficient, fair and responsive” to the needs of students, parents and schools.

Ministry denies payment for placement

The Ministry further reiterated that CSSPS placement is free and that no parent or candidate is required to pay money to secure a placement or have a placement changed.

It urged parents and guardians with credible evidence that an official of the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, the CSSPS Secretariat, the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service, or any third party is demanding money in connection with school placement to report the matter to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

The Ministry assured that the identity of individuals who report such cases would be protected.

The statement, signed by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, said the government remained committed to protecting the integrity of the CSSPS and ensuring that merit, fairness and transparency remained at the heart of the placement process.
