The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed indefinitely its reopening for the 2026/2027 academic year due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a press release dated October 9, 2026, the university management announced that the reopening, originally scheduled for October 13, 2026, would no longer take place as planned.
According to the statement, the decision was necessitated by the ongoing industrial action by GAUA and its impact on the university’s effective operations and administration.
“The University Management wishes to inform students, parents/guardians, and the public that the re-opening of the University for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, originally scheduled for 13th October 2026, has been postponed indefinitely,” the statement said.
The university advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the development, adding that further information on a revised reopening date would be communicated in due course.
Management also expressed regret over the inconvenience the postponement might cause and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.
The statement was signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer, on behalf of the Registrar.
The indefinite postponement means students preparing to return to campus for the new academic year will have to await further communication from the university on when academic activities will resume.
KNUST has not indicated a new date for reopening.
