Schools in the Lawra Municipality have received 460 pieces of furniture and educational books in a fresh intervention to improve teaching and learning, despite a furniture deficit of more than 1,600 pieces.
The donation, from the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), was officially handed over to the Municipal Education Directorate on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng, Municipal Chief Executive Nuratu Soyelleh and Presiding Member Justice Gaanuu led the handover, with Municipal Director of Education Francis Cudjoe receiving the items.
Mr Cudjoe disclosed that although the Directorate had received more than 1,000 pieces of furniture since April this year, schools across the municipality continued to face a significant shortage.
He appealed for further support, particularly desks for teachers and pupils, to address the persistent logistical challenges confronting schools.
The MCE urged the Directorate to distribute the 460 pieces fairly, prioritising schools with the most severe shortages.

She expressed hope that the intervention would improve classroom conditions and contribute to better performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The MP, meanwhile, highlighted the plight of pupils forced to sit on classroom floors because of inadequate furniture and assured residents of his commitment to mobilising additional desks to close the gap.
NALAG also presented educational books to the Directorate as part of efforts to strengthen teaching and learning in the municipality.
