The Electoral Commission of Ghana has formally disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe from contesting in the 2024 parliamentary elections for the Amenfi Central Constituency.
This decision follows an interlocutory injunction the Commission has cited issued by the Sekondi High Court on May 31, 2024, which restrains her from being recognized as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate due to ongoing legal disputes with plaintiffs Gyedu Frimpong and others.
“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an Order for Interlocutory Injunction dated 31st May, 2024 in respect of a suit entitled Gyedu Frimpong & 4 others Vrs Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress & the Electoral Commission (Suit No. E12/36/24) by the High Court, Sekondi”.
The Commission emphasized that it is legally bound by this court order, which remains unvacated.
“The said Order has neither been stayed nor vacated hence the Commission is bound by same”, the statement signed by Samuel Tettey Deputy Chairman, Operations opined.
The disqualification adds to the growing list of candidates affected by procedural issues ahead of the December elections.
