The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging its supporters to desist from attacking state institutions in the country, following the outcome of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary election.
According to the Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC has won the election, and there is no need to tarnish the victory by attacking and invading state institutions.
“There is no need to attack government institutions or vandalize any public property; there is no need for that,” Mr Gyamfi said.
He claimed that the current NPP leadership has indulged in many corrupt practices and is possibly seeking avenues to avoid accountability. He explained that when NDC supporters attack these state offices, the corrupt officials may use the destruction as an opportunity to escape without facing justice.
“There are many NPP supporters who want to destroy evidence of their wrongdoings and criminal conduct. Don’t give them a smooth excuse to do that,” he said.
He further urged supporters to remain calm and celebrate the victory peacefully, saying, “Please, we beg you,”.
As of Monday, December 9, barely 48 hours after the polls, some disgruntled NDC supporters invaded several state institutions, including the office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Ayawaso East Municipality in Accra. They have also allegedly invaded the Metro Mass Transport Limited yard at Kaneshie.
Some supporters have also besieged collation centres across the country, demanding a swift declaration of the parliamentary results from the just-concluded polls.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is set to declare the results by the evening of Monday.
