The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has announced that it will no longer support or participate in activities organized by the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), citing what it describes as neglect and lack of respect from the national traders’ body.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Association’s Head of Communications, Benjamin Takyi Addo, the leadership expressed disappointment over GUTA’s failure to officially invite the Association to the inauguration ceremony of its newly elected president.
According to the statement, the omission was unacceptable given the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association’s role and contribution to Ghana’s trading and spare parts sector.
“We, the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, will not involve ourselves in any activities organized by GUTA because we were not officially invited to the inauguration of their new president,” the statement said.
The Association further noted that it has felt ignored and sidelined during several of GUTA’s official programmes, a situation it believes undermines unity and cooperation among trader groups in the country.
The leadership stressed that mutual respect, inclusiveness and proper communication are essential for effective collaboration among trade associations, adding that it will maintain its position until its concerns are addressed.
