The Ashanti Regional Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on party members from the region not to challenge Justin Frimpong Kodua for the position of General Secretary in the upcoming internal elections.
Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa Radio monitored by Kumasimail, the Organizer, Francis Adomako, explained that targeting only one national position could limit the influence of Ashanti members.
He advised party members to aim for different national roles rather than focusing all efforts on the General Secretary position.
Adomako highlighted the achievements of Justin Frimpong Kodua as General Secretary. He said that Kodua has helped many people find jobs and has also assisted them with accommodation when they visit Accra, the nation’s capital.
Whenever you go to Accra and face problems, who do you call? Today, if you call Kodua, he will direct you to a hotel. Sometimes, he even pays for your driver’s accommodation,” Adomako said.
He added, “My honest plea is that those interested in Kodua’s position are great people. Why don’t we look at other national positions and contest there? Let’s leave Kodua as General Secretary. To err is human. Everyone makes mistakes, and people learn while doing their jobs.”
Adomako praised Kodua for his support.
“The number of people Kodua has helped to get jobs is impressive. I have never seen such a leader before. Whenever there is a recruitment opportunity, he calls me to bring people from the region. I did not get this kind of help under previous General Secretaries, even though I was a regional executive.”
With a tone of camaraderie, he urged his colleagues in the region who seeks to contest Justin Frimpong Kodua stating “my little advice is to plead with my people. They are all fantastic and brave. Let’s calm down and look at other positions instead of General Secretary. If we all go for one position and remove Kodua, Ashanti will only have one national executive. But if we target different positions, we can have more influence at the national level.”
Again, Adomako asked party members to support each other and to aim for a variety of national roles to strengthen the Ashanti Region’s position within the NPP.
Currently, former Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has declared his intent to contest for the General Secretary position.
Also, the immediate past Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has expressed a desire to contest for the position.
