BoG, SEC warn public against ‘Daily Wealth Guide’ Crypto investment scam

Doctored video falsely portrays President John Dramani Mahama as endorsing platform promising high returns

Ghana’s public debt drops to GH¢736 billion – Bank of Ghana

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have issued a public warning against a suspected cryptocurrency investment scam operating under the name “Daily Wealth Guide.”

In a notice issued on September 1, 2026, the two regulators said scammers were promising Ghanaians unusually high returns through the purported crypto investment platform.

According to the Bank of Ghana, a doctored video circulating on social media falsely portrays President John Dramani Mahama as endorsing the “Daily Wealth Guide” investment platform.

The regulators cautioned that members of the public should not be misled by the video or any invitation to invest money through the platform.

The BoG and SEC said soliciting funds from the public through such schemes amounts to deposit-taking business under the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

Under Section 4(1) of Act 930, only corporate bodies licensed by the Bank of Ghana are permitted to engage in deposit-taking activities.

The Bank stressed that it has not licensed any individual or entity to engage in the crypto investment activities being promoted by “Daily Wealth Guide.”

It said individuals or entities involved in such activities could face penalties and may be required to refund all funds received from the public.

The regulators further warned that offenders could face administrative penalties ranging from 500 to 100,000 penalty units under Section 53(3) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

They added that persons or entities found to be involved in such practices could also be reported to law enforcement agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.

The Bank of Ghana urged the public to verify the licensing status of any individual or company before depositing or investing money with them.

It also reminded Ghanaians to place deposits only with institutions licensed by the Bank of Ghana and other relevant regulatory authorities.

The BoG further called on media organisations, including radio, television and online platforms, not to advertise unlicensed investment schemes or so-called foreign investors without first verifying their licensing status with the Bank.

Members of the public who encounter suspected illegal investment activities have been encouraged to report them to the Bank of Ghana.

The Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission said they would not hesitate to work with law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute persons found to be involved in fraudulent investment schemes.

The notice was signed by Aimee Vyda Quashie, Secretary of the Bank, and issued on September 1, 2026.
