Savannah Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Imoro Seidu, is banking on the party’s 2024 electoral gains and what he says is the backing of President John Dramani Mahama and the region’s six NDC MPs as he seeks a second term.
The incumbent formally declared his bid for re-election on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the forecourt of his private residence in Sawla, setting the stage for a potentially contested race for the regional chairmanship.
Mr Imoro Seidu argued that the NDC’s fortunes in the region have surged under his leadership, attributing the gains to sustained grassroots mobilisation and what he described as deliberate and strategic leadership.
He pointed particularly to the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections, when the NDC won six of the seven parliamentary seats in the Savannah Region, a result he described as a major breakthrough.
“The gains we have achieved did not happen by accident. They are the result of conscious grassroots mobilisation and leadership,” he said.
The chairman urged party delegates and stakeholders to back his re-election bid, warning against abandoning what he described as tested leadership at a critical stage in the party’s development.
“I therefore seek the support of the kingmakers of our dignified party for another term to consolidate the gains accomplished under my tenure,” he said.
Mr Imoro Seidu also claimed that consultations with key party stakeholders had yielded support for his decision to seek another term.
“Even the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has thrown his support behind me, including the six parliamentarians on the ticket of our great party,” he disclosed.
He said the next phase of the party’s development in the region required experience, firm leadership and a deliberate strategy, qualities he believes he has demonstrated during his current tenure.
The chairman said he would file his nomination once the process for the regional executive elections officially opens.
His declaration comes as the NDC prepares to elect new regional executives across the country on November 14 and 15, 2026.
The Savannah chairmanship contest is expected to attract competition, with Ing. Nasser Adam, a longtime NDC activist who has served as a branch secretary, branch chairman, constituency secretary and vice chairman since 1992, and Bole-based miner and businessman Osman Seidu emerging as potential challengers.
