Former Subin MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary aspirant Eugene Boakye Antwi has called on National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim to assert his authority and prevent a recurrence of the public altercations between party figures Kennedy Agyapong and Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC).
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Antwi emphasized that Ntim, as the party’s leader since July 2022, must stamp out indiscipline ahead of the 2028 elections.
He said “The leader of the party is Stephen Ntim, and he has always been the leader since July 2022. Nobody should be in any doubt. He must call all members into a room and dictate the terms of engagement. What we witnessed between Kwame Baffoe and Kennedy Agyapong should never happen again.”
Antwi stressed the need for structured communication, proposing that all public statements by former flagbearer aspirants be pre-approved by the National Chairman to avoid unscripted conflicts.
“It should be structured so that whatever any former flagbearer aspirant wants to say must be sanctioned by the National Chairman. If anyone holds the microphone to speak, we should know exactly what they’re about to say. It should be a one-minute speech – no long addresses because the bottom line is that in the election we just contested, we lost abysmally. This is not the time for long speeches”,
He then added “If this structure isn’t enforced, and Candidate A uses their platform to attack Candidate B, Candidate B will inevitably retaliate when it’s their turn.
“However, if we coordinate properly – for instance, by having my brother Kwadwo Nsafoa speak first, followed by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong offering an apology to the people, and then introducing Dr. Bawumia, everyone will understand the message clearly. No one should speak for more than one minute”.
The former Deputy Works and Housing Minister linked the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat to internal disarray and urged a focus on disciplined messaging.
“Now where we are, Ghanaians want to see maturity. They want to see that yes, we’ve just left government, and the votes cast against us must make voters regret their decision. Grandstanding on stage isn’t the way to achieve this.”
“It shouldn’t happen that while someone is speaking, others try to take the microphone away from them. It’s unacceptable – sometimes even immature– the way they do it. This clearly shows a lack of planning”, he emphasized.
The General Secretary hopeful further emphasized that discipline within the party is critical to winning the 2028 elections, stressing that nobody is bigger than the party.
He said “If we are going to win in 2028, discipline is paramount. Nobody is bigger than the party. While we will grant speaking opportunities, we won’t allow anyone to speak irresponsibly”.
Antwi specifically urged Ntim to enforce consequences for dissenters.
“If Stephen Ntim is listening to us, he should sit down with all of them and make it clear that what they witnessed in Sunyani should never happen again. Otherwise, all of them will have to leave, and anyone who thinks they are bigger than Stephen Ntim can do whatever they want”, he declared.
