The Ashanti New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus of Members of Parliament has dismissed allegations of bias and undue influence in the recent Ashanti Regional Caucus election.

The caucus issued a press release rejecting reports suggesting that the election process was manipulated against Nana Ayew Afriyie, stating that such claims are “entirely false.”

The statement emphasized that the election adhered strictly to democratic principles, ensuring fairness, transparency, and independence. “There was no external influence, coercion, or favoritism in any form,” the caucus asserted, describing any claims of bias as baseless.

The caucus also addressed reports that Nana Ayew Afriyie secured only eight votes, calling such claims “factually inaccurate” and an attempt to mislead the public. While the press release did not disclose the actual vote count, it insisted that the widely circulated figure was false.

The caucus further refuted claims that Ayew Afriyie actively participated in the election, either by campaigning or seeking votes based on his affiliation with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the statement, he was neither present at the election nor involved in the process.

Additionally, he had formally informed the Interim Management Committee ahead of the event that he was not interested in contesting any leadership position.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, the Ashanti Caucus urged the public and party supporters to disregard the “misleading reports.” The caucus underscored its dedication to fostering unity within the group and the broader New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The press release was signed by the caucus secretary, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Esq., who reiterated the caucus’s stance against misinformation and unnecessary controversy.
