Kwaku Kyerematen, popularly known as KK, host of Talk Ghana on Wontumi TV, has accused the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, of being an enabler of illegal mining activities, widely referred to in Ghana as galamsey.
Speaking on his show, KK alleged that the minister has been quietly supporting the operations of illegal miners despite his public stance against the practice.
His comments came in response to Dr. Amoakohene’s reported description of Wontumi TV as “Galamsey TV” and his accusation that the station accusing of being a illegal miner.
“I know for sure that he(Dr. Frank Amoakohene) is an enabler of illegal mining (galamsey). As for being an enabler, that I know,” the talk show host stated.
“Because of the NPP’s internal politics, I’m holding back for now. After January 31, when the NPP presidential election is over, the truth will come out.”
KK claimed that he and others are aware of activities allegedly linked to the regional minister.
“Some of us know what’s going on behind the scenes. We have all the information,” he said.
He further emphasized that if he were to sit in his studio and categorically claim that the minister owns a galamsey concession, as one Wendell Yeboah alleged on Aluta FM, he would be lying.
“If I say I know the exact location of Dr. Frank Amoakohene’s mining site, I would be lying.“
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Amoakohene, has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
Background:
Wendell Yeboah, Head of Mobilization at Democracy Hub, made serious allegations on Aluta FM implicating the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, along with the Western and Eastern Regional Ministers, in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
These claims, broadcast on November 18, 2025, accused the ministers of being directly involved in or enabling illegal mining in their respective regions.
The Ashanti Regional Minister strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious, and without merit. He emphasized his commitment to fighting illegal mining and stated he has never engaged in or owned any mining concessions. Legal action has been initiated to demand public retraction and apology from Yeboah and Aluta FM.
Similar denials and legal warnings followed from the other implicated ministers, including the Eastern Regional Minister.
Due to the high-profile nature of the accusations, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been petitioned to probe the allegations against the ministers.
Public reaction included criticism of the claims and demands for proof, which led to Yeboah later issuing a public apology and retraction stating the allegations were not based on truth or evidence
