The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed Julius Kwame Anthony, Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Minister for the Interior, as its Deputy Communications Director, with immediate effect.
The appointment was approved by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) at a meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, according to a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
The party said the appointment was intended to strengthen its communications machinery, enhance public engagement and improve its capacity to communicate the policies, programmes and achievements of the NDC-led government.
Mr Anthony is expected to work with the party’s Communications Directorate and other relevant structures to advance its communication objectives.
The appointment places the young politician in a key party communications role while he serves as the public-facing spokesperson for the Interior Ministry.
Who is Julius Kwame Anthony?
Mr Anthony is a lawyer by academic training, youth leader and political communicator who has been associated with the NDC’s national communications team.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ghana, where he graduated with First-Class honours in July 2025. He also holds a degree in Public Administration and Chinese from the same university, according to a profile published by YEN.com.gh.
His leadership experience includes serving as General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) from 2021 to 2022. During his tenure, he led the #JusticeFor499 campaign, which sought fair admission opportunities for qualified applicants to study law.
He also previously served as Chief Justice of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC), adding student governance experience to his academic and political background.
Beyond student leadership, Mr. Anthony has been involved in youth development initiatives. He serves as Executive Secretary of the Anthony Saves Foundation and Director of the Aldin Scholars’ Foundation, organisations associated with youth leadership and scholarship support, according to the same profile.
From party communicator to government spokesperson
Mr Anthony’s latest appointment follows his entry into government communications in April 2026, when he became Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
His public work in that role has included communicating the minister’s positions on security matters and responding to issues involving the ministry and its agencies.
In August 2026, for instance, he announced the Interior Minister’s directive for the Inspector-General of Police to investigate an assault on a suspect in custody and identify officers who might have facilitated or permitted the incident.
He has also appeared on media platforms to discuss government policies and ongoing national issues. In April 2026, he called for a realistic national conversation about the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, arguing that timelines, funding and project scope should inform expectations.
In August, he also defended the government’s position that the Accra-Kumasi bypass project had not been abandoned, amid calls for renewed attention to unfinished road projects.
These engagements have given him a public platform through which he communicates government positions and participates in political and policy debates.
Board appointment and growing public role
Before his appointment to the Interior Ministry, Mr. Anthony was named a board member of Ghana Digital Centres Limited in 2025 by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, according to YEN.com.gh.
His appointments to the digital centres board, the Interior Ministry and now the NDC’s communications leadership mark successive roles in public service and party communication.

The NDC’s statement expressed confidence that Mr. Anthony would bring dedication, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility to his new position.
It said his appointment was expected to deepen public understanding of the party’s policy direction and help sustain the gains the government says it is making under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, particularly within the framework of the Reset Agenda.
The party has also asked media organisations and other stakeholders to recognise Mr Anthony in the discharge of his official duties.
Mr. Anthony joins Godwin Ako Gunn and Kakra Essamuah as designated contacts for media enquiries and other matters concerning the NDC, according to the statement.
The party’s announcement concludes with congratulations to the new Deputy Communications Director and wishes him success in his new responsibilities.
