Julius Kwame Anthony, the newly appointed Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to uphold accurate, factual and responsible communication as he assumes a new role in the governing party’s communications leadership.
Mr. Anthony, who is also the Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Minister for the Interior, said he considered the appointment both a privilege and a solemn responsibility.
In a statement issued hours after the announcement of his appointment, he expressed gratitude to the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC), particularly its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, for the confidence reposed in him.
“This appointment is both a privilege and a solemn responsibility,” he said, pledging his commitment to the party’s cause and its role in sustaining Ghana’s democratic governance.
Mr. Anthony said he would dedicate himself to protecting the people’s mandate through responsible communication, stressing the importance of factual and accurate information in the discharge of his new responsibilities.
“I further dedicate myself to the protection of the people’s mandate through accurate, factual and responsible communication,” he stated.
His appointment was approved by the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee at a meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with immediate effect, according to a statement signed by Mr. Kwetey.
The party said the appointment was part of efforts to strengthen its communications machinery, enhance public engagement and improve its capacity to articulate the policies, programmes and achievements of the NDC-led government.
Mr. Anthony is expected to work with the party’s Communications Directorate and other relevant structures to advance its communication objectives.
From student leadership to government communication
Mr Anthony brings experience in student leadership, political communication and public service to his new position.
He previously served as General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) from 2021 to 2022, a period during which he led the #JusticeFor499 campaign, which sought fair admission opportunities for qualified applicants to study law.
He also served as Chief Justice of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ghana, where he graduated with First-Class honours in July 2025. He also holds a degree in Public Administration and Chinese from the university.
Before his latest appointment, Mr. Anthony was named a board member of Ghana Digital Centres Limited in 2025.
He subsequently assumed the role of Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in April 2026, placing him at the centre of public communication on matters relating to the ministry and its agencies.
His appointment as Deputy Communications Director of the NDC adds a party-level responsibility to his existing government communications role.
Thanks supporters
Beyond expressing gratitude to the party’s leadership, Mr. Anthony acknowledged the support he had received from NDC members and other individuals throughout his political and professional journey.

“I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to the entire membership of the NDC and to all individuals who have directly or indirectly supported me throughout my journey thus far,” he said.
He added that their encouragement, guidance, goodwill and support had been invaluable to his growth and latest achievement.
The NDC, in announcing the appointment, expressed confidence that Mr. Anthony would bring dedication, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility to the position.
The party also said his appointment was expected to deepen public understanding of its policy direction and help communicate the government’s agenda under President John Dramani Mahama, particularly within the framework of the Reset Agenda.
Mr Anthony joins Godwin Ako Gunn and Kakra Essamuah as designated contacts for media enquiries and other matters concerning the party, according to the appointment statement.
