Ghana has resumed egg exports to Burkina Faso after the neighbouring country lifted restrictions on imports following high-level talks between officials of the two countries in Ouagadougou.
The breakthrough was secured during an official visit by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, and the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, to Burkina Faso on Friday, July 17.
The ministerial engagement with Burkinabe authorities resulted in the removal of restrictions on Ghanaian egg exports, reopening an important market for local poultry producers.
Both countries also reached an understanding to facilitate the lifting of restrictions on the importation of tomatoes into Ghana as part of efforts to enhance agricultural trade between the two neighbours.
The development is expected to provide a major boost to Ghana’s poultry industry by expanding market opportunities for local farmers and agribusinesses.
It also reflects ongoing efforts by the two countries to remove trade barriers, strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and promote food security within the sub-region.
