The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the renaming of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho.
The institution will henceforth be known as the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences.
The Minister made this historic announcement today at the Ministry of Education during the inauguration of the university’s newly constituted Governing Council.
This event was attended by key stakeholders from the education sector, university officials, and representatives of the late President’s family.
Haruna Iddrisu underscored that the renaming is a fitting tribute to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, whose vision and leadership were pivotal in the establishment of UHAS.
The Minister highlighted President Mills’ unwavering commitment to advancing health and education in Ghana, noting that his legacy continues to inspire national development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the newly appointed Chair of the Governing Council, Professor Kodzo Gavua, expressed his gratitude for the honour bestowed on the institution.
Professor Gavua pledged that the university would remain steadfast in its mission to deliver academic excellence and to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
“The legacy of President Mills is one of service, integrity, and dedication to the welfare of Ghanaians,” Professor Gavua remarked.
“We are committed to upholding these values as we train the next generation of skilled health professionals who will serve not only Ghana but also the broader international community,” he added.
