Ghanaian music legend Kojo Antwi has pledged to launch his next album at the Manhyia Palace in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, although the release and launch dates are yet to be announced.

The musician, popularly known as the “Mr Music Man,” made the commitment when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene during the Awukudae Festival.

The visit was primarily to present copies of his memoir, Mr Music Man: The Journey, to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asantehemaa, but it also provided an opportunity for the veteran musician to share plans for his next musical project.

Kojo Antwi assured the Asantehene that once the new album is ready, its launch would take place in his presence at Manhyia Palace.

During the visit, the musician presented 300 copies of his memoir to the Asantehene.

He later paid a separate visit to the Asantehemaa, HRH Queen Nana Yaa Akyaa II, to congratulate her on her enstoolment and presented 50 copies of the book to her.

Kojo Antwi was accompanied on the visits by his wife, Mrs Rocklyn Antwi, and ace broadcaster Dr. Kwame Adinkrah.

Preserving a musical legacy

The engagement brought together two prominent figures associated with Ghana’s cultural heritage, highlighting the relationship between traditional leadership and the country’s creative arts community.

Kojo Antwi formally introduced his memoir, Mr Music Man: The Journey, to the Asantehene as a record of his life, musical career and experiences spanning several decades in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

The book, launched in February 2026, traces his journey from his formative years to his emergence as one of Ghana’s most influential musicians.

It also reflects on his experiences in the music industry, the people who influenced his journey and the evolution of his artistry over the years.

Kojo Antwi has previously explained that one of the motivations for writing the memoir was his concern that many African music legends left behind limited written accounts of their experiences.

He said documenting his life would help preserve his story and contribute to the historical record of African music.

A meeting of cultural institutions

Kojo Antwi’s career has spanned highlife, Afropop and reggae, with his music earning him audiences in Ghana and beyond.

His extensive body of work has also attracted academic interest, with researchers describing him as an important figure in Ghanaian popular music and a significant contributor to the country’s musical heritage.

His encounter with Otumfuo therefore extended beyond the presentation of a memoir.

It brought together two dimensions of Ghanaian heritage — the Asante traditional institution and a musical tradition shaped by artists whose work has influenced generations.

The Awukudae Festival provided a significant cultural setting for the engagement, bringing together traditional authorities, dignitaries and members of the public.

For Kojo Antwi, presenting his memoir to the Asantehene offered an opportunity to share a documented account of his personal and professional journey with one of Ghana’s foremost custodians of tradition and culture.

The meeting also highlighted the broader importance of preserving Ghana’s history through traditional institutions, music, literature and the personal stories of individuals who have contributed to the country’s cultural development.

As Kojo Antwi continues to document his musical journey and prepare his next album, his commitment to launch the project at Manhyia Palace adds another chapter to the enduring relationship between Ghana’s creative arts and traditional heritage.
