The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Constituency Chairman for Awutu Senya East, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, from office for five months pending investigations into allegations contained in a petition lodged against him.
In a letter dated July 22, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said its Functional Executive Committee (FEC) reached the decision at a meeting held on July 21, 2026, after considering a petition submitted by the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, along with recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders.
The party said the FEC found sufficient grounds to invoke Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the NDC Constitution, leading to the immediate suspension of Mr. Ofosu Agyare from his position as Constituency Chairman.
According to the letter, the matter has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and any appropriate action in accordance with the party’s constitution.
During the suspension period, Mr. Ofosu Agyare has been directed to refrain from performing any official duties or exercising any authority as Constituency Chairman until the disciplinary process is concluded or the party issues further directives.
The NDC said copies of the petition from the Awutu Senya East MP and the report of the Central Regional Council of Elders were attached to the suspension letter.
The correspondence was copied to the Central Regional Chairman, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, the Regional Chairman of the Council of Elders, and the Constituency Secretary.
The party did not disclose the specific allegations contained in the petition or indicate when the National Disciplinary Committee is expected to conclude its investigations.
