The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Ashanti Regional Police Command and the IGP’s Special Operations Team for their dedication to combating crime and maintaining peace and security across Ghana.
The commendation was made on Wednesday, July 22, during a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police Arthur Osei Akoto, who led the Director of the IGP’s Special Operations Team, Superintendent Augustine Dawson-Ahmoah, his deputies and other members of the unit.
During the meeting, COP Akoto formally introduced the Special Operations Team to the Asantehene and outlined the Inspector-General’s initiative to establish the unit to strengthen intelligence-led policing and enhance public safety nationwide.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the team’s sustained intelligence-led operations have made a significant impact on security in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Asantehene, the operations have contributed to a reduction in drug trafficking, robbery, human trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.
He further urged officers to remain disciplined, professional and committed to their mandate, stressing that policing requires dedication, sacrifice and integrity.
“Policing is a noble profession that demands dedication, sacrifice and integrity. Prioritise your safety while carrying out your lawful responsibilities,” Otumfuo advised.
Responding on behalf of the team, Superintendent Augustine Dawson-Ahmoah thanked the Asantehene for his encouragement and reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Police Service in maintaining law and order.
“We remain committed to sustaining intelligence-led operations to protect lives and property and to support the Ghana Police Service in maintaining peace and security across the country,” he said.
The Special Operations Team was established by the Inspector-General of Police to bolster intelligence gathering and proactive policing as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and combat organised crime across the country.
