The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a picketing exercise at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, over the government’s failure to settle an outstanding debt of approximately GH¢50 million owed to its members.
In a statement jointly signed by NAIS President Emmanuel Ayivor and Assistant Secretary Ruth Kodua, the association said the planned protest follows years of unsuccessful efforts to secure payment for goods supplied under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.
According to NAIS, its members have not been paid since 2023 for the supply of school uniforms, house dresses, and other essential clothing items to public senior high schools across the country.
“Since 2023, NAIS members have not received payments totalling approximately 50 million Ghana cedis for services rendered’, the statement emphasized.
The association described the delay in payment as a major financial burden on its members, many of whom are struggling to sustain their operations.
“Despite numerous engagements and appeals to the relevant authorities, the issue remains unresolved,” the statement noted. “This has caused severe financial hardship for our members and threatens their ability to continue providing essential services to schools.”
NAIS indicated that the planned picketing is intended to draw urgent attention to the matter and compel government action.
“The demonstration aims to highlight the urgency of the situation and to demand the immediate release of funds owed to our members,” the statement added.
The association further called on the media to provide coverage of the protest to amplify its concerns and ensure that the issue receives the attention of key stakeholders.
NAIS expressed hope that the peaceful protest would prompt swift intervention from authorities and lead to the settlement of the outstanding payments.
