The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Chief Director, Bless Kwame Darkey, has urged Local Government Service staff to embrace transfers as opportunities to broaden their experience and improve service delivery.
He said the ongoing staff rationalisation exercise, which will see some officers moved from districts where they had worked for several years to new locations, should not be viewed as punishment.
Mr Darkey made the remarks during a familiarisation and working visit to the Garu District Assembly.
He said staff transfers could help spread best practices across the Local Government Service, while giving officers the opportunity to apply their experience in different working environments.
“This is not a punishment. I did not see my posting to the Upper East Region as a punishment. I saw it as an opportunity to work, to really be engaged with people and to also showcase what I can do together with others.”
He urged officers affected by the exercise to approach their new postings positively and use the opportunity to learn from colleagues and strengthen existing systems.
“We want to put best practices. We want to learn from each other,” he said.
Mr Darkey cautioned staff against dismantling functioning systems when they move to new districts, saying their responsibility should be to preserve what works while introducing improvements based on their experience.
He said staff mobility would enable officers to gain exposure to different administrative and operational practices and facilitate the sharing of lessons across the Local Government Service.
The Chief Director also assured staff that their welfare would be considered as the rationalisation exercise progresses.
He said the RCC would continue to advocate for the logistics and improved working conditions required to enhance staff productivity.
Mr Darkey further urged officers to see themselves as part of one professional family, regardless of their district of posting.
He said the broader objective was to build a stronger and more effective Local Government Service capable of delivering better public services and development outcomes.
