We’re happy Mahama didn’t give up on this country – Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang
Share on WhatsApp

The running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has described the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as an honest and truthful person.

She says Mr Mahama is the kind of leader Ghanaians want.

Speaking during the launch of the NDC campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, she said “Ghana needs a truthful respectful leader in the person of John Dramani Mahama.”

“We have tried him, he has reflected on what is going and he is coming up with new ideas. We are very happy that Mahama did not give up on this country and that he is ready to put himself up to rescue, stabilize, and redeem  this country.”

For his part, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Fifi Kwetey said that the governing NPP are determined to hold onto power in this year’s elections because they know they will be prosecuted for corruption.

However, he said the NDC will not allow the NPP to rig the elections.

Speaking during the launch of the NDC campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, he said “

the election is a battle between Ghana and NPP…taking out of the NPP is not going to be easy because they know that once they are out, punishment will follow them, and they know they will be prosecuted for corruption.

“Because of that they are going to do everything possible to steal the votes, so we need to be extra vigilant. The job ahead is not an easy job but we promise you we shall deliver.”

The National Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah told President Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure peaceful elections.

He says that the president should not hide behind the security to intimidate opponents of his party in the elections.

“Mr President you the commander in chief of the Armed Forces,  your word to the security sector that you are interested in a peaceful election will be obeyed, ensure peaceful elections,” he said during the launch of the NDC’s campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

For his part, the chairman of the NDC campaign team Professor Joshua Alabi has said that the governing New Patritoc Party (NPP) will lose the upcoming elections on December 7 and hand over power to the NDC.

He says it is up to the NDC to protect the ballot during the poll, an action he promised party supporters that the leadership would undertake.

Prof Alabi stated that Ghana is currently headed in the wrong direction under the Akufo-Addo administration.

To that end, he has asked Ghanaians to go out into their numbers for the NDC during the elections on December 7.

“Ghana is moving in the wrong direction, [The NPP] will lose and hand over and run away and we are assuring everybody that we will protect your votes so go and vote,” he said during the launch of the NDC 2024 campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

For her part, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, cautioned all agents of the NDC not to accept money that will come their way to stop monitoring the elections to allow for some underhand dealings to take place.

She said the NDC needs to win the election to protect the democracy of Ghana hence the need to protect the ballot.

She noted that the Akufo-Addo administration has been a failure and further accused the government of ‘blatant corruption”

Corruption has been presided over by this government,” she said during the 2024 campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

“Today we promise John Mahama that we will set the bar high with zero tolerance with respect to corruption. The people of Ghana hold NDC to the highest standards

“We must hold onto principles that can’t be bought with money, we must make sure none of our agents is be bought,” she said.

“Let’s protect the ballot boxes., do not allow yourself to be misled by the money people will bring your way,” she said.

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi for his part, said that the 2024 general election will experience a change of government.

To him, Ghanaians will vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because of the “incompetent Akufo-Addo government.

“Change is coming, are you ready for change,” he said during the campaign launch of the NDC in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.

“The victory of the NDC is coming again,” he stressed.
