Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has criticized the party’s leadership for failing to release findings from its 2020 general election research, describing the decision as a mistake that undermined the party’s preparedness.
Speaking to NPP professional groups in the Ashanti Region during his campaign for the party’s national chairmanship, Mr. Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi said the decision to keep the research results internal denied grassroots members crucial insights needed to improve electoral performance.
“The grassroots form the foundation of the party. We cannot conduct research into our election performance and keep the findings to ourselves. The base must understand what went wrong so lessons can be learned and corrections made,” he stated.
According to him, sharing such information would have better positioned party members ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Chairman also pledged greater transparency if elected as National Chairman, drawing on his experience as former Bosomtwe Constituency Chairman and current Ashanti Regional Chairman.
“I have learned from my time in leadership, and I assure you that past mistakes will not be repeated,” he said.
He further outlined his vision to actively involve professional groups within the party in research and strategy development, particularly ahead of the 2028 elections.
“I believe in research and expertise. You are the people I will rely on to provide direction and help shape our electoral strategy, especially in the Ashanti Region,” he added, while appealing for their support.
The NPP is expected to hold its National Delegates Conference later this year in Accra to elect new national executives to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Boasiako is among several party figures who have declared their intention to contest for the National Chairman position, alongside Boakye Agyarko and John Boadu.
