Renowned political scientist and governance expert, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA).
His appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, takes effect immediately, replacing Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in December 2024.
Prof. Gyampo, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, is widely recognized for his expertise in governance, public administration, and policy research. He is expected to bring his extensive experience to the GSA, a key institution regulating Ghana’s shipping and logistics sector.
Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, he has built a distinguished career in academia, public policy, and governance. He is the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana and has taught and conducted research for over two decades.
Prof. Gyampo holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and has undertaken advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA. His research interests include governance, leadership, youth empowerment, electoral studies, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and peacebuilding in Africa.
Beyond academia, Prof. Gyampo has played a crucial role in policy advisory and governance reforms. He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of South Florida and a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol.
Before his academic career, he spent 14 years at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), rising from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow. At the IEA, he led critical socio-economic and governance research projects, providing evidence-based policy recommendations to tackle Ghana’s key challenges.
Through extensive research, roundtable discussions, and media engagements, Prof. Gyampo has significantly influenced national discourse on governance and policy reforms.
As the new Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Gyampo is expected to steer the institution toward enhanced efficiency and strategic reforms in Ghana’s shipping and logistics industry. His leadership comes at a time when the sector faces global supply chain challenges and evolving trade policies.
His appointment signals a shift towards governance-focused leadership at the Authority, with stakeholders anticipating a fresh perspective on industry regulation and policy direction.
