A yet-to-be-identified man, believed to be in his early 30s, met his untimely death on Tuesday morning after allegedly attempting to steal a transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Suhyen, New Juaben North Municipality.
Residents woke up to find the lifeless body next to the ECG transformer, with no visible signs of assault. This incident is the latest in a series of attacks on ECG installations in the Eastern Region, which have severely impacted the company’s operations.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Koforidua Effiduase Police Divisional command were deployed to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
The body has been deposited at the Effiduase St. Joseph Hospital. NADMO’s New Juaben North Municipal Deputy Director, Daniel Kankam Twumasi, confirmed the incident to the media that investigations are underway to determine the actual cause of death.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of tampering with electrical installations and the need for increased security measures to protect critical infrastructure.
